CSI High School is a recipient of a grant in conjunction with the Noble Maritime Collection at Snug Harbor. The purpose of the program is to get young people to expand their horizons by increasing their appreciation of art and culture by appealing to youth's love for sports and briding it to the arts. Throgh this program, students have discussed commonalities between sports and art, photographed people playing a variety of sports, read about sports, looked at works of art about sports and are working with artists at the Noble Maritime Collection to make monoprints of people invovled in sports. They will also create poetry about their print and then will exhibit their work at the museum. Read about it in the Staten Island Advance. Click here.

The Staten Island Advance featured a story on CSI High School students' current service learning project. All student take part in community service projects. The story highlights the school's Community Service Day, where students worked throughout Staten Island and the Bronx on special projects. Excerpt: "At Project Hospitality, students learned about people with troubled identities, like the hungry and the homeless. The students sorted donated clothes, assembled place setting of plastic cutlery and bagged bread, among other tasks." Read the full article.

CSI High School is hosting a Bahraini student delegation for three weeks. Today, the students took part in a videoconference with Ambassador Almansoor, head of the Bahrain Mission to the UN, and Mr. Hasan, Cultural Attache at the Bahrain Embassy. This program is made possible by the iEARN Global Connections / BRIDGE Program. Learn more.

of Staten Island, [New York City Schools Chancellor Joel] Klein was surprised to hear that several students would otherwise have attended Catholic
schools.

have great public schools."

... pupils at the College of Staten Island High School for International Studies will occupy the first floor
of a modern building, with views of college students holding books in their laps, sitting cross-legged on the
grass. The long-anticipated public school will become a reality in September, when the 108 students making up
the inaugural class report.
The principal, Aimee Horowitz, has been shaping an academic framework intended to inspire their
awareness about global interconnection.
"It's a little like being in a private school," said Ms. Horowitz. "Every teacher knows not only your name but
also your learning style and hobbies."
